It all started in the early days of 2009, when Gilbert Corrales decided to give a chance back to the academia after working for more than eight years with big companies like Unisys, Intel, HP and the award winning interactive agency Schematic.
After living all of his life in America, Gilbert moved his cheese to Asia and decided to join one of the most important research institutes there: the Korea Institute of Science and Technology.
Within days in his new role as a researcher and following a lead from his advisor, Dr. Heedong Ko, he came up with the idea of a mobile travel research project. The idea was quite simple: mix and match the good old travel guide with today’s best social web services and make it available as a mobile app.
Gilbert, took into this task with a lot of excitement and together with a group of undergraduate students from Costa Rica, brought Discovr Places to life. Across fifteen hour difference between South Korea and Costa Rica, the team has had to excelled and polished their communication and pro-activeness through Skype, Google Apps and Adobe ConnectNow.
Today, the Discovr Places platform is a reality. With a whole full feature iPhone app, a beta Android app and a Windows Phone 7 app in the works, all powered by a strong cloud-based platform, Discovr Places it’s here to bring a innovative solutions to travelers around the world.
Discovr Places is a completely new way to travel and share your adventures, it integrates the good old travel guide with services like facebook, twitter and foursquare, creating an enhanced, dynamic experience that makes exploring, tracking and sharing your travel experiences just as simple as two taps on the screen.
Thanks to a partnership with the Korea Tourism Organization, Discovr Korea will became the first social guide to take advantage of the Discovr Places platform. Discovr is looking forward for more partnerships and users.
